Bug Out Vehicle For Emergency Getaway Plan

July 30th, 2010 by Guest Author

Many survivalist families have a bug out vehicle they are preparing for a quick getaway.

According to studies and reading in survivalist forums a common vehicle used as a means of evacuation is a utility sport jeep or truck with 4 wheel drive, and fully decked out for off road adventure, preferably with a lift kit for higher ground clearance, and big tires.

Since these all terrain vehicles tend to be less efficient on fuel, you will want the ability to carry extra fuel.

Place some baggage racks on top and with the spacious room inside, especially some of the utility vehicle, such as a suburban on big tires, you will be guaranteed to go places with your bug out vehicle where most folks will not be able to get to.

A very important item to pack into your vehicle is some sort of alternative energy such as a portable solar generator.

Side note:Here is some normal bug out stuff you will want to have in your car at all times if you live in an area where hurricanes, tornados and earthquakes are frequent or anticipated.

Should you get caught in an emergency situation and you are able to take off in your bug out vehicle, then all you need to do is grab your bug out gear from your car, throw it in your BOV and be ready to go.

*Bug Out Bag… You can make your own or buy one.

*Basic Survival Gear … it is not uncommon for folks to be trapped inside their vehicles for several hours and having some basic tools will enable you to help others that are less prepared.

*First Aid Kit … just a basic first aid kit should be enough. You may want a more extensive kit in your actual bug out vehicle.

Me, Personally… I think a Pack Horse is the BEST option for an emergency getaway plan!

If you are a single person, or even if there are two people, having a couple pack horses or mules is the best way to pack emergency supplies to a remote area.

*Mules or horses can go where a truck will never dream of going. Especially if you need to cross rocky steep terrain, cross a river or sneak through the woods.

*Horses do not need fuel. Or not diesel or gas anyways! They DO have to eat so you will need to plan for a bag of grain if you use a horse or mule.

* Horses have been used for transportation for YEARS. Long before cars were ever invented and they are able to carry a lot of weight without it being a burden on them.

So yes, I do believe a pack horse is the very best Bug Out Vehicle there is! Not everyone will have the option to use a horse though.

However, Back to the emergency vehicles… Regardless what you put into emergency bags that will be loaded into your vehicle. The important thing is that you LEAVE IT IN THERE!

Don’t use your emergency items , thinking you will replace it before a calamity hits. It’s not worth it when you go to grab it and some of your essential items are missing.
